Monster Hunter Wilds continues to reward hunters who pay attention to weather, terrain, and lore. In the Ruins of Wyveria, Guardian Monsters roam as unnatural constructs that neither hunger nor sleep. They fight until they die, and when they fall in the right place under the right sky, they leave behind something special: Cloudy Crystals and Coruscating Crystals. These rare materials are essential for Wyverian Melding, but the long and short of it is that most hunters never see them drop because the setup is easy to miss.

The Only Way to Get Cloudy and Coruscating Crystals

To put it simply, these crystals are a much rarer cousin of the common Crushed Crystal. Crushed Crystals can be obtained from any Guardian Monster or picked up in the environment. Cloudy and Coruscating Crystals, however, can only be carved from Guardian Monsters, and only in Wyveria. But that alone is not enough.

Two specific conditions must line up:

Make no bones about it: this is not a simple carve. After the monster is defeated inside a Wylk Pool, hunters have to wait for it to decompose. Normally, a defeated monster becomes a Rotten Carcass. Under these conditions, it instead transforms into a Crystallized Carcass. Once crystallization happens, it can be carved again even if the hunter already carved the body after the initial kill.

This also applies to Guardian Seikrets, not just large Guardian Monsters. Many large Guardians will retreat to a Wylk Pool when they are close to death, giving hunters a natural window to land the final blow. Keep your eyes peeled for that glowing blue pool—it is both a monster's healing spot and, with the right timing, its grave.

Because hunters must wait for the carcass to crystallize, this method only works in Field Surveys. Optional Quests and Investigations do not offer the same window, as the hunt ends before the body can transform. It is a small detail that trips up plenty of hunters.

Despite sharing the same displayed rarity, Coruscating Crystals are much rarer than Cloudy Crystals. Large Guardian Monsters are more likely to yield Coruscating Crystals than Guardian Seikrets. If a hunter is chasing Coruscating specifically, targeting larger Guardians is the better call.

One more thing worth stressing: this only applies to Guardian Monsters. Defeating a non-Guardian monster in a Wylk Pool, no matter the weather, has no special effect. The carcass rots as usual. The interaction is tied to the artificial nature of Guardians, which fits the lore of Wyveria's experiments.

What Cloudy and Coruscating Crystals Are Used For

The whole process may sound like a hassle, but the payoff is in Wyverian Melding. These crystals are used to create Relics, which in turn are used to make Artian weapons. Given that Guardians were creations of Wyveria, using their crystallized remains to craft Artian gear feels oddly appropriate.

Crystal Melding Points
Crushed Crystal 20
Cloudy Crystal 60
Coruscating Crystal 300

That gap is significant. A single Coruscating Crystal is worth 15 Crushed Crystals or five Cloudy Crystals in melding value. For hunters invested in Artian weapon crafting, farming Coruscating Crystals can dramatically speed up Relic creation.

Of course, if a hunter has no interest in Artian weapons, these crystals are nearly useless. They are a specialized material tied to a specialized system. Still, the weather-and-terrain condition is a clever way to make the world feel alive, and it gives the Ruins of Wyveria a little more purpose beyond story progression.

All in all, the grind is not for everyone, but hunters who enjoy the intersection of weather, terrain, and monster behavior will find it oddly satisfying. It is a rare case where waiting for a body to decompose is not a grim chore but a deliberate farming technique.
