Man, oh man, has Capcom been cooking! The first major free title update for Monster Hunter Wilds dropped, and let me tell you, it’s so much more than just a couple of new beasties to bonk. We got the Grand Hub – a vibrant social space where hunters can finally kick back together after carving up monsters. And tucked away in this hub is my new obsession: Barrel Bowling. Yep, you heard that right. Barrel Bowling. It’s absurd, it’s chaotic, and it hands out free goodies like a generous Palico.

When I booted up the update, I expected a sleek gathering hub – but what I got was a full-on playground. The Grand Hub is this massive, multi-tiered area where you can arm-wrestle, share meals, check out other players’ gear, and yes, roll bomb barrels down a hill like a maniac. It immediately reminded me of those silly minigames in Monster Hunter World’s Gathering Hub, cranked up to eleven. You can find the barrel bowling spot by heading to the right side of the Grand Hub and climbing a short set of stairs that lead to a hilltop. It’s hard to miss – the aroma of gunpowder and the sight of a heavily mustached Palico vendor named Rollie give it away.

Before you go hurling bombs willy-nilly, have a chat with Rollie. Your first interaction nets you 10 Barrel Bowling Tickets, the key currency for this mini-game. You can practice for free without tickets, but playing the “real” mode – the one that showers you with rewards – consumes one ticket per round. So far, I haven’t been able to buy more tickets with zenny or guild points; they seem to refresh or drop from limited bounties. Fingers crossed we’ll get a way to farm them, because I could bowl all day.
Here’s how it works.
Once you cash in a ticket, you get two throws of a massive barrel bomb down a whimsical lane dotted with targets. Think bowling, but there’s no gutters, and the pins are replaced by explosive hazards and a precious cat statue. Points are dead simple:
-
🎳 Small Pins (little wooden barrels): 2 points each. They’re plentiful but barely nudging your score.
-
💥 Large Pins (big, sturdy barrels): 20 points each. Hit a few of these and you’re laughing.
-
🐱 Palico Statue: 200 points. A single knock on this golden kitty can rocket you to an A rank.
After your second bomb has detonated, you’re awarded a rank based on your total score. Ranks range from abysmal D all the way up to glorious A. The scoring thresholds aren’t displayed anywhere obvious, but from my trial and error, here’s what I’ve sussed out:
| Rank | Estimated Point Threshold | Typical Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| D | 0 – 19 | A potion and maybe a tear of disappointment |
| C | 20 – 79 | Potions, rations, occasionally a voucher |
| B | 80 – 199 | Mega potions, meal vouchers, sometimes a bonus ticket |
| A | 200+ | High-tier consumables, multiple meal vouchers, and rare tickets |

I can’t stress enough how useful those meal vouchers are. When you’re neck-deep in tempered investigations, having a free chef’s special that buffs your attack and elemental resistances is a game-changer. Plus, getting potions and mega potions means less time gathering bugs, and more time breaking horns.
The bowling itself is pure physics-based chaos. The bomb barrel rolls realistically, bouncing off uneven terrain and small pebbles. You need to aim your throw using the left stick for direction and a press-and-hold button for power. The lane starts flat, then dips into a hill, so early release with a slight angle to the right will often curve the bomb straight into the Palico statue. My pro tip: on your first throw, go hard for the Palico statue. Even if you whiff, you’ll likely knock down a cluster of large pins. Use the second throw to clean up any remaining large pins and maybe reposition to tag the statue if it miraculously survived. Hitting 200 points is absolutely achievable once you get a feel for the bomb’s arc.

One thing that caught me off guard: your hunter’s excitement while they bowl is infectious. The Palico commentary, the exaggerated explosions, the little victory jig when you score big – it’s the slice-of-life silliness I never knew I needed between hunts. I’ve already spent hours in the Grand Hub just watching other players bowl, cheer, and occasionally whiff terribly (looking at you, greatsword mains). It’s become a perfect reset after a frustrating cart.
As of 2026, this is the freshest way to stock up on consumables while genuinely having fun. No more tedious botanical garden runs – just a couple of explosive bowling sessions and my inventory is stacked. The devs really outdid themselves with this title update. So grab your tickets, head over to Rollie, and may your bombs always find the Palico statue. I’ll see you on the hill, hunters!
TL;DR Quick Tips:
-
Always talk to Rollie first to get your free starting tickets.
-
Aim for the Palico statue on throw one; it’s worth a staggering 200 points.
-
Adjust your power and angle to account for the slope – practice freely to dial it in.
-
S-rank doesn’t exist (yet), so just chase that sweet A rank for the best loot.
-
Use meal vouchers before tough hunts; they’re the real treasure here.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a date with a bomb and a downhill slope. Happy bowling!
